Middle School Extended Day Programs provide two different opportunities for students:

   1. MCA Test Prep Courses for those students who have not shown proficiency on Reading and Math sections of the MCA.  As part of the ALC Extended Day program, students who attend are offered an opportunity to prepare for and learn material for the next MCA.  These test prep classes will offer .5 elective math credits and .5 elective reading credit per session.

These opportunities are offered at the student’s home school during sessions after school according to the schedule listed below.

Each school offers classes according to the need of its students each trimester.   All middle schools offer Test Prep for Reading and Test Prep for Math.

Each school currently offers snack and

The Saint Paul Area Learning Center (ALC) is a nationally recognized model for providing educational services leading to high school graduation for at-risk and under-served students.   Each school year hundreds of students earn credits needed for graduation through ALC Extended Day and Summer Session Programs in their own middle schools, thus enabling them to graduate on time. ALC focuses on increasing student achievement in reading and math, through the use of focused academic, skill-building activities.

The ALC Middle School extended day program operates at 11 sites across the city, with a total enrollment approaching 1000 students.  Summer session is also available at most sites.

Curriculum
ALC has ordered all new curriculum for extended day classes.  We have selected power benchmarks based on MCA scores and have targeted our instructional needs based on this data.
